INTERVIEW | CHRIS HILL

Chris Hill reflected on an ‘interesting’ debut as Bradford Bulls secured a fourth straight win, an 18-12 victory over Doncaster in the final instalment of Friday Night Fever last weekend.

The in-form visitors held a deserved lead at the break and led until the final 15 minutes, with Waqa Blake and Jayden Okunbor scoring for the Bulls.

Despite the half-time deficit, Bradford’s new recruit insisted there was no panic as Brian Noble’s side adapted to the challenge in front of them.

“It was an interesting debut, they slowed it down and made it hard work for us which we’ve seen them do on video. We’ve got to be better than that and cope better than that. It was an ugly win but a win is a win.”

“It was my first taste of the Championship in 15 years and the pace was slower than Super League but it was difficult and will probably take me a few weeks to get back used to it but I'll adapt.

“In Super League you mainly get fast play and playing out to the edges pretty quick and play square. You find in this league they don't but we have to adapt to that, it’s as simple as that but we will get better going into play offs.”

“There was no panic at half-time but we knew we could be a bit better. I thought they played really well to be fair, they slowed everything down and they got the energy battle because we didn't adapt and we gave a cheap ball away which let them back into the game. They were really good first half and I thought they deserved the lead at half-time. We needed to be better.”

Having joined the club on Monday evening, Hill enjoyed two training sessions before his debut on Friday night.

He insists the Bulls made a lasting impression in a Challenge Cup trip to Salford in March - and wants to ‘add a little bit’ to help the club achieve its goals.

“I've been here all week so had a couple of training sessions, the lads have got a week off now with no game next week, the lads needed the break with a long season and now we need to get ready for the business end of the season.

“Bradford made a good impression on me in that Challenge Cup game earlier on in the season, I knew what I was coming to, they are a really good football side so that was the beauty of coming. I knew what I was coming to and im glad to be here and just love my time here and help them achieve what they want to do at the end of the year.”

“I'm 37 and I don't stop learning, I will learn a lot from the talent here and if I can add a little bit and it makes us a little bit better I’ll be more than happy.”
